Using the gallery
The gallery has been designed to be as user friendly as possible but there are a few things that are worth knowing in order to make the most of the site.
Enhanced Images
Not everybody has broadband yet and so the default images in the gallery are optimised for a fast modem connection. In order to make the images download at a reasonable speed, they have been 'compressed' which will have a visual impact on some images (ones with lots of gradual tone/colour changes and some hard edges). If you want to see the higher quality images, you can click on the image in the detail view which will download the higher quality version.
Large Images
One of the advantages of using the large format camera is in producing images that have lots of detail. The typical web viewing size doesn't represent this but I've tried to get close by providing larger images. These can be accessed by clicking on the high quality images discussed above (so you would click on the detail image twice to get to them).
Browsing through the images
The next and previous buttons have been set up so that they don't move when you click from page to page. This means you can leave your mouse in one place and just keep clicking. To make it even easier, when you reach the end of a gallery section, clicking next takes you to the first picture in the next section. If you want to browse through high quality images or large images, click until you get to an image at the size/quality you want and then keep clicking next and previous. The system will remember what option you had selected and use it for each image from then on.
Information and Price
To make the site as uncluttered as possible, the prices for the images and the image photographic and location details are hidden by default. If you click on the 'pound' symbol or the 'i' for info symbol, these details will be shown.
Keyboard Shortcuts
To make it even easier to browse through the gallery, we've added the following shortcuts.
- Left Arrow - Previous picture or previous gallery
- Right Arrow - Next picture or next gallery
- Up Arrow - Back to gallery view if on picture or back to gallery home if in a gallery
- Down Arrow - Go to enhance view if on normal picture, go to large picture if on enhance view, go to enhance picture if on large view
- P - Open the purchase details panel
- I - Open the information panel
Background Colour
Click on the small widget at the top right of any page on the site to swap the background colour of the site from black to white or vice versa. The site will remember your choice and display your preferred colour when you return.
