Cloud reflections

One of the great things about working on a large format camera is its ability to record tiny details and to render subtle colours and gradations in tone so it seems a little perverse not to work in the more delicate lighting conditions afforded by soft light.

I made this image late one afternoon on the margins of Achnahaird beach. I was very conscious that making yet another shot of a boulder and sky reflections was not the most original thing I could do. However I felt that the way that the light reflected from the clouds etches into the rim of the nearest boulder was quite strange and intriguing. I like to include ambiguous or mysterious elements within my images and this fitted the bill.
