Into the Wild

Coigach from Stac Pollaidh

Most photographers react but when shooting on a large format camera it is much better to anticipate. When I arrived at this spot on the shoulder of Stac Pollaidh the light was much as you see it here. However, within moments of my arrival the sun was covered by an approaching snowstorm. I decided to set up the camera in anticipation of the return of light and spent a very uncomfortable half an hour being plastered by driven snow and buffeted by high winds. As the storm began to pass the sun returned for a few brief seconds; just long enough to capture the beauty of what I had seen. The clouds returned and I made no more images that day.
