Sketches
Whilst I'm still convinced that using a 5x4 camera gives the best possible results I also always carry a small compact digital. I use these to make photographic "notes" when exploring the divergent problem of composition and also when the light or subject are transitory - in 5x4 terms this means that conditions are right for less than ten minutes! I feel freer to experiment when using a compact and I feel that this "permission to play" has led to appreciable changes in my 5x4 photography.
The images here were made on a variety of compacts including Panasonic Lumix LX3, LX5, GF2, Canon G11 and an iPhone.
